Last week, we had our Open Night at the Waverley Montessori Preschool. This is a great opportunity for potential parents to come visit the Preschool and ask the teachers all those questions on their mind.

Its great watching the new children explore the activities in the room, and it is exciting for us teachers to get to know the new children who may be spending two years at the Waverley Montessori Preschool.

If you are interested in visiting the preschool to see if it is the right place for your future Montessorian, please feel free to contact us on (03) 9546 2289.

Dear Parents and Readers

The Monash Health Foundation works to secure funds for research, education, capital works, new technology and innovative projects, supporting Southern Health’s vision for better health in our community.

The Monash Health Foundation encourages fund-raising activities and as a part of the fund-raising for the Monash Health, I (Zarine Irani) will be shaving my hair on Monday 27th October at 1205pm. If parents would like to watch with your children, you are welcome to stay back. We will be discussing it with the children.

Kindly sponsor and help me support the cancer children at the Monash Medical Centre by donating here:

Alternatively I will be collecting money at the Waverley Montessori Preschool. All funds raised will be forwarded to the Monash Health within 30 days. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and a receipt will be provided by Monash Health. All funds raised will go to the Monash Children’s Cancer Centre.

Last week the children celebrated Grandparents Day at the Waverley Montessori Preschool. This was a lovely way for the Montessorians as well as the teachers to show the grandparents that we appreciate all their help in raising the children.

We started the day with a lovely morning tea and then the children were excited to show the grandparents their favourite activities around the classroom. The grandparents really enjoyed the morning and had a fun time joining in on some of the activities as well.

We want to thank the grandparents for everything they do for their grandchildren and for their enthusiasm on the day.

Chinese Fan Dance

Last week, we had a special demonstration of Chinese fan dancing at the Waverley Montessori Preschool. We had a lovely lady who put on quite a performance in bright and colourful costumes and using some very interesting props. Some of the dances included the use of a fan, a pretty delicate chinese paper umbrella and even a sword!

The Montessorians learnt some Chinese fan dancing moves and afterwards were able to put on a bright mandarin hat and have a shot at fan dancing themselves.

The children were very much interested in learning about the rich Chinese culture – which we chose as part of our week learning about the Asian continent. It was also interesting to learn about the traditional dance of China. We would love any suggestions our readers may have on traditional dances of another country which we could introduce to the Montessorians.

This week we celebrated Father’s Day at the Waverley Montessori Preschool. Can you believe we started this blog with Mother’s Day and here we are at Father’s Day already!

We had a fun day planned for our Montessorians beginning with breakfast with all the fathers, who made an appreciated effort to come and make the day special for their children. Everyone enjoyed a mini breakfast buffet of croissants, toast and spread, cereal and tea.

Following breakfast, Claire from Red Herring put on a japanese paper puppet show, which appealed to both the fathers and the children. This japanese story telling show ties into our classwork where children are learning about the Asian continent.

Dads then helped the children with the craftwork by assisting with pasting and folding. Excited children were also able to show their dads their favourite activities in the classroom. This was a fun morning that involved all the fathers and children. To all the parents out there, what is your favourite activity to do with your little ones?

Thank you to all the dads and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as your children!

Happy Fathers Day,

Mrs. Zarine
